Overview
About
F12.net is an Edmonton-based managed IT services provider that works with small and medium-sized businesses across Canada. Founded in 1996 by Alex Webb, the company has grown from a small computer sales and service business into one of the country's largest privately held MSPs, with offices in Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario and more than 20,000 users supported through its managed technology platform.
The company's history goes back to 1992, when Webb's computing hobby began turning into a business venture. By 1996 the operation, then called System Systems Inc., had five partners and was selling, installing, servicing and training clients on personal computers. As personal computing gave way to networked business systems, the company changed names several times and kept expanding, buying and folding in other IT services businesses. In 2011 it rebranded as F12 Networks. Along the way, F12 became one of Canada's first providers of managed hardware-as-a-service, private cloud, and Microsoft cloud solutions - a model where clients pay a predictable subscription instead of buying and maintaining their own servers and PCs. The company is consistently ranked among North America's Elite 150 MSPs.
Growth has also come through acquisition. Webb has brought ten different IT services businesses into F12 over the years, including Level4 Technologies in 2019, Apps on Tap and Paradigm Networks in 2018, Sitkum IT Managed Services and OnDeck Solutions the same year, and XCEL Professional Services in 2016. In 2020, private equity firm Clairvest invested CAD 36 million for a stake in the company, with the existing management team keeping a majority of the equity. Clairvest exited in December 2025, selling to a new majority investor while Webb and other existing shareholders reinvested, keeping founder leadership in place.
F12's services cover the core areas listed: managed IT services, cybersecurity, cloud services, disaster recovery services and IT consulting. The business runs on a subscription model built around F12 Connect, its proprietary software platform for customer experience and service delivery, and F12 Advisor, a service tier for long-term IT strategy and planning. The company also prescribes equipment lifecycles for clients - replacing hardware on schedule and bundling in training and employee onboarding so businesses stop making one-off procurement decisions.
Alex Webb remains Founder and CEO and is based in Edmonton, where he is active in the IT channel community through Ingram Micro's TrustX Alliance. The firm works with vendor partners including Microsoft, Lenovo and Veeam. Headquartered at 13555 156 Street NW in Edmonton, F12 employs between 250 and 999 people, a scale that lets it run 24/7 operations and a dedicated cybersecurity practice for clients that are too small to staff those functions themselves.
